About AR1 Endophyte

AR1 is a novel endophyte strain developed by AgResearch in New Zealand. Unlike wild-type endophyte, AR1 does not produce the alkaloids (lolitrem B and ergovaline) responsible for ryegrass staggers and heat stress in horses and alpacas. It retains the plant persistence and drought tolerance benefits of standard endophyte, while being completely safe for equine and camelid species. AR1-infected ryegrass is the industry standard recommendation for horse and alpaca pastures across Australia and New Zealand.
