The Most Important Question: Warm Season or Cool Season?

Before choosing a specific grass variety, you need to know whether you need a warm-season or cool-season grass. This depends primarily on your climate and when you want your lawn to look its best.

  • Warm-season grasses (Kikuyu, Couch) — thrive in summer, go dormant and brown in winter. Best for QLD, NSW, VIC, SA, WA in warmer regions.
  • Cool-season grasses (RTF Tall Fescue, Ryegrass, Fescue blends) — stay green through winter, can struggle in extreme summer heat. Best for cooler climates in VIC, ACT, TAS, and elevated areas.

Warm Season Varieties

Kikuyu Seed Mix 5kg — $85

Best for: Establishing a new Kikuyu lawn quickly. The ryegrass component provides fast cover while Kikuyu takes hold. Sow October–March. Covers 150m².

Pure Kikuyu Seed 1kg — $80

RTF Tall Fescue / Kentucky Bluegrass Blend 5kg — $88

Best for: Cooler climates needing extra frost hardiness and wear tolerance. Premium blend with improved disease resistance. Covers 100m² new or 200m² oversowing.

Shady Blend Lawn Seed Mix 5kg — $95

Best for: Areas under trees, eaves or buildings with limited sunlight. Fine leaf ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass and red fescue blend. Covers 165m² new or 330m² oversowing.
